2018 Suzuki Jimny rendered, based on leaked images

Some renderings of the 2018 Suzuki Jimny have hit the web, detailing the boxy design and new-look front end, while adding a splash of colour.

The renderings, by IndianAutosBlog, are based on official leaked images from a couple of months ago (as detailed in our Top 10 best small SUVs coming report). So although they aren’t official images they do give us a pretty good indication of what the new model will look like.

At the front you’ve got a squared-off, slab of a face, with Suzuki’s traditional vertical grille and circular headlights, and a fresh front bumper bar with chunkier details. Around the sides you’ve got some muscular black wheel arch extensions to give it a tough off-road look.

Around at the back is a centrally-mounted spare wheel, which is taken from the official leaked images that surfaced in August (in gallery below), with a full-swinging tailgate. The taillights are positioned down on the separate bumper bar below.

As far as we know the 2018 Suzuki Jimny will retain a live axle front and rear suspension setup with leaf springs at the front and rear. Power is expected to come from Suzuki’s new 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 82kW and 160Nm in the latest Swift GLX. It’s set to come in manual and automatic from, potentially with a locking diff.

From images of the interior that have been leaked, it looks like Suzuki will be fitting its universal touch-screen media interface to the dash. This will be massive leap ahead on the outgoing model, which doesn’t come with any sort of media interface but rather an old-school head unit.

According to reports Suzuki will be giving the cute little go-getter an official unveiling at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show later this month. It all starts on October 27.
