The 2018 Volvo XC40 has been priced for the Australian market, giving the Scandinavian brand a compact premium SUV rival to the likes of BMW X1 and Jaguar’s new E-Pace.
Based on the brand’s new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) co-developed with parent Geely, the XC40 is 4425mm long, 1863mm wide and 1658mm in height. It features a massive touch screen infotainment system incorporating Android Auto and Apple CarPlay plus Volvo’s ‘Clean Zone’ dual-zone climate control system. Pilot Assist, Volvo’s semi-autonomous cruise control system is also available as an option.
Initially, two engine specs will be offered in Australia, T5 and D4. T5 utilises a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine with 185kW and 300Nm, while the D4 2.0-litre turbo-diesel generates 140kW and 400Nm, both combining Volvo’s fuel-saving Drive-E technology with eight-speed auto and all-wheel drive. It is presumed that when Volvo’s new 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo becomes available it should join the range down the track.

The XC40 T5 and D4 will come in Momentum and R-Design versions to begin with.
