2018 Nissan Patrol Y62 lands in Australia with clever i-RVM tech

Yes, the Y62 Nissan Patrol is kicking on for another year, with the local arm announcing the updated 2018 model is arriving in dealerships now with enhanced technology and safety.

Chief among the safety updates is the introduction of the Intelligent Rear View Mirror (i-RVM) system adopted from the US-spec model. It helps the driver to see around the obstacles that can be presented in the second and third row of seats. The view is displayed in an LCD unit within the rear-view mirror.

The system comes as standard with the flagship Ti-L variant, and drivers can easily flick between the traditional mirror and the special camera system. This can be done even while the vehicle is driving.

Also packaged into the 2018 update is autonomous emergency braking and intelligent forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and intelligent lane intervention. This is all standard on the Ti-L. An around-view monitor, moving object detection with adaptive cruise control and distance control is also part of the kit.

Visually, the 2018 Patrol gets a redesigned front end with a new bumper bar, new grille with horizontal metallic bars, and some new fog light clusters lower down. There’s also a set of newly-designed 18-inch alloy wheels to give it a fresh look.

The interior comes packed with two USB ports for the rear seat passengers, with 8.0-inch multimedia screens in the backs of the front seat headrests for the Ti-L. A touch-screen LCD interface is included up front for the on-board media functions, with sat-nav, Bluetooth, and climate control all standard across the range.

As before, the same beastly 5.6-litre naturally aspirated V8 powerhouse remains under the bonnet, generating 298kW of power and 560Nm of torque. This is sent through a seven-speed automatic and into an intelligent four-wheel drive system with high and low range, and multi-mode terrain driving settings.

Just two variants are available in Australia, with the first examples already touching down in the country. Prices start from the following (before on-road costs):

2018 Nissan Patrol Ti – $71,990
2018 Nissan Patrol Ti-L – $88,990
