Nissan Australia has expanding the local X-Trail lineup with the introduction of the new TL diesel variant, which sits at the top of the range.
Up until now the X-Trail diesel has only been available in TS trim. but now buyers can enjoy the luxury of the TL. So what’s all the fuss about with the diesel? It’s a new 2.0-litre turbo unit, up from the old 1.6, and it generates 130kW and a grunty 380Nm.
The engine is mated to a CVT automatic with all-wheel drive. Even with an increase in capacity the fuel consumption remains very respectable, at 6.0L/100km on the average cycle. This is helped by an eco mode and stop-start system.
Joining the existing TS AWD, the TL diesel comes in as the most expensive X-Trail on sale in Australia, priced from $47,790. Being the top model though does get you plenty of creature comforts, including a rear-view camera with around-view technology, sat-nav, black or tan leather-accenting trim, and cruise control.
This is all in addition to the other standard stuff as fitted to the TS, such as forward collision warning, blind-spot warning, and autonomous emergency braking, along with a touch-screen infotainment screen and push-button start. In a statement, Nissan Australia managing director Stephen Lester said:
“There is still an appetite for diesel, and offering a diesel engine in not only important for us but for Nissan X-Trail buyers. The X-Trail range has sold well since the May update, and with the base model TS diesel available since June, we are excited to have the full diesel range now on sale.”
Nissan Australia has celebrated some decent sales of the X-Trail, with 13,691 sales so far this year, through September. It’s the fifth best-selling model in the very competitive medium SUV segment. The new model is on sale now from the following starting prices (before on-roads):
