Ford Motor Company’s American luxury division, Lincoln has shown the first pictures of the 2019 Lincoln Continental Coach Door Edition.
Based on the flagship Continental sedan, the Coach Door Edition features a stretched wheelbase ( by 15.24cm), which aids rear legroom. The suicide rear doors open to 90 degrees, for superior entry and egress. Built to celebrate the company’s 80th anniversary, the design of the vehicle deliberately evokes the early-mid 1960’s era Continentals, which bucked the trend of ostentatious fins and outrageous styling in favour of clean, almost-European lines.
Under the bonnet, you will find a 3.0-litre, 298kW, 542Nm twin-turbo V6, mated to a six-speed automatic with all-wheel drive. As with its shorter-wheelbase and conventionally-hinged stablemate, it uses Ford’s CD4 platform. The new Continental Coach Door Edition joins the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Rolls-Royce Phantom to become the only luxury sedans on the market equipped with rear-hinged doors (unless you count the Bufori Geneva).
The Coach Door Edition will be limited to 80 units in 2019 before migrating to full line status in 2020. While the Lincoln brand isn’t coming to Austrlaia any time soon, you can stay up to date with the latest luxury releases here. What are your thoughts? Tell us below in the comments section.
