The 2018 Holden Equinox- long overdue replacement for the Captiva- has been further detailed ahead of its December launch, including pricing, equipment and specifications.
Kicking off from a very competitive $27,990 before on-road costs, the Equinox will square off against other medium SUVs including the Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Ford Escape and Toyota Rav4, which all haver similar, but higher entry prices.
The range kicks off with the front-drive manual LS, powered by a 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder engine, developing 127kW and 275Nm, backed by either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
Standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as reversing camera.
The automatic gearbox is a $2000 option, with LS+ adding more driver assistance features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning and forward collision alert.
Stepping up to the $36,990 LT will give you one of the most powerful engines in the class. The 188kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbo engine and 9-speed automatic combination is shared with the upcoming ZB Commodore. A 1.6-litre turbo-diesel with 100kW and 320Nm will become available in the new year. Holden’s executive director of sales, Michael Filazzola said:
“Our customers are demanding more technology and more performance without sacrificing any practicality or value, and with Equinox, Holden is delivering once again. We’ve got premium features like a dual-panel panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel and safety alert drivers seat that gives a small vibration to warn drivers of potential hazards. Not to mention Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a rear-view camera as standard across the range.”
Unlike some rivals, including Nissan X-Trail, Mitsubishi Outlander and new Honda CR-V, the Equinox is a five-seater only proposition, leaving seven seater duty to the upcoming Holden Acadia in 2018.
